Why Stakeholders’ Inputs in Telecoms Draft Regulatory Instruments is Important–NCC

 Olushola Bello

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has called for written submissions from industry stakeholders on the updated draft regulatory instruments as well as participation in the public inquiries scheduled to hold in Abuja.

It stated that the essence of calling for stakeholders’ input is to have an all-inclusive Communications Act

The Director of Public Affairs, NCC, Dr. Reuben Muoka, in a statement, said that the Commission in the exercise of its functions under the Nigerian Communications Act 2003, had published the draft regulatory instruments on its corporate website at www.ncc.gov.ng for stakeholders’ comments.

The new draft regulations comprised the Telecommunications Networks Interconnection Regulations (as amended); Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators (as amended); and Guidelines on Dispute Resolution (as amended).

By Section 57 of the Act, he stated the commission “had scheduled Public Inquiries in respect of the above-mentioned draft regulatory instruments to hold at the Conference Room of the commission’s head office on May 21 and 22 in Abuja.

Accordingly, he stated that any interested stakeholders, by the notice, “are invited to make written submissions on the subject and participate in the Public Inquiries.”

The director also advised stakeholders to send their submissions to the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission on or before Friday, May 10, 2024, while the Public Inquiries would be held in the Conference Room of the Nigerian Communications Commission Head Office, Maitama District, Abuja.
