With Siaka Momoh
The Lagos-Badagry motor-way has come as a great relief to commuters, motorists, residents and business owners who live or ply this key international corridor on a daily basis. Those who knew how derelict and dangerous this route was in past years will understand the point being made here.
It was a long stretch of unmotorable crater-ridden road that caused motorists wears and tears and by extension, money, ill-health. And death too! O yes, lives were. There was a ghastly accident along Festac Town corridor over 10 years ago that took dozens of lives!
Currently, there is disaster waiting to happen along Ojo Army Cantonment Mammy Market stretch of the Lagos-Badagry motorway. This is a very busy market that draws customers from the Amuwo/Festac/Satellite/Ijegun/Okokomaiko/Ajangbadi/Agric/Iyana Iba/Alaba International market, etc., communities. I go on shopping with my wife occasionally to the market and so know what I am talking about. There is no parking provision for customers who come to the market with cars. There is ample space between the Mammy Market and the express road but the designers of the international road did not provide an access bypass into the space. The motorway is a very busy corridor 24/7. It is suicidal sharing it for parking. Government attention is therefore being drawn to this grave error. Something must be done about it urgently.
