As it was five years ago in Egypt, the Super Eagles have again dumped out Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions at the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-0 win.

As it had also been at any level of the competition save the final match, Cameroon have again found Nigeria a hard nut to crack.

What a vengeance! On the same turf where Cameroon first defeated the Nigerian football team 40 years ago, the same Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan has turned to the slaughter slab where the carcass of the Indomitable Lions now lay.

For the first time since beating Sao Tome & Principe, they have been able to double their scores. They now have three consecutive matches with wins and clean sheet.

The Super Eagles kicked off and show that they meant business. In the ninth minute Semi Ajayi found the net. The celebration was cut short as the VAR nulified the goal on account of offside in the build up to goal.

But in the 36th minute, Victor Osimhen who played his heart out and struggled to disposes  Oumar Gonzalez with the ball and laid a pass to Ademola Lookman who poked the ball underneath an advancing goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa.

In the second half, Cameroon threw all materials into the game in vein including their famous striker, Vincent Aboubakar.

Just as they struggled upfront, Nigeria compounded their woes as lookman again right footed a shot from the centre of the box to the centre of the goalafter a delivery from Calvin Bassey

Nigeria will now face Angola in the quarter-finals.
