…Bala Wunti, Lawan Sade affected
In a bid to reposition the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited ( NNPCL) the new administration of the organization led by Bayo Ojulari has retired a good number of management staff . just as some are also promoted.
The staff members affected, Business Standards gathered were sent letters individually intimating them of their retirements. Those affected are said to be those who are general managers and above, and have up till June 2026 to retire.
The exact number of those affected is not made known, but Bala Wunti, former head of National Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS) and all the managing directors of all the refineries. Also affected are Lawan Sade who was the head of Compliance in the company and Ibrahim Onoja, managing director of the Port Harcourt Refinery.
The action has elicited good reactions from the staff of the company who sees the action as very beneficial to them, as some of them were immediately uplifted to some of the vacant positions.
Reacting to this development, some stakeholders commended the swiftness of filling the vacant positions which they said was done with the knowledge of the company’s structure and setting.
NNPC’s C-suite and rank-and-file appeared excited about the exercise, with some suggesting Mr Ojulari took the action to create broader opportunities for women and other minority groups.
They said it is a good sign as no one wants a chaotic situation after all. A good number are also promoted to fill vacant positions.
Key people affected are alleged to the loyalist of the immediate past chief group executive officer, Mele Kyari.

It would be recalled that the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Union (NUPENG) and  counterpart Petroleum and Natural Gas Association f Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have written the new management stating that they would not accept top positions of the company to be filled by outsiders.
